HENDERSON, Ky. (4/23/13) – The Construction Technology class at Henderson County High School has been hammering away at what is a now a “move- in- ready” house built by the Career and Technical Education (CTE) students.

Materials were in place and a blue print was laid out when sophomores, juniors, and seniors started working on building a three bedroom, one bath home in September of 2012.
 
“We learned how to work as a team in a short amount of time,” said Austin Koonce, senior Construction Technology student.
 
The Vocational Builders Association (VBA), in conjunction with the CTE Construction Technology Class, was a big reason why the house was built this year.
 
The home is still on the market and can be purchased through Vocational Builders. The new home is expected to sell for approximately $79,900 to a future home buyer.
 
“To have real life hands-on experience is what makes my high school experience engaging and intriguing,” said Chad Pryor, senior Construction Technology student.
 
Today at 1:00 a.m., the house will be transported to a lot located at 732 Fifth Street in Henderson, Kentucky.
 
“This was the second time we had students build on site. It saved on cost having our students on campus versus having to transport them to the location every day,” said Construction Technology teacher Ronald Spencer.
 
Senior Brandon Cavins added, “It was beneficial applying skills we learned in class such as basic math to outside experience of the classroom.”
 
All extra money that is made with the interest from VBA will be given back to the CTE Unit to build another house in the future. The CTE Unit has been building houses for over 26 years.
