Annual Touch-A-Truck Event Will Benefit Child Development Center of the Bluegrass

touch truck 300LEXINGTON, Ky (8/16/13)— The 2013 Touch-A-Truck Event is set for 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 25, at Keeneland, behind the Keene Barn. The event will raise funds for programs and therapy services for the Child Development Center of the Bluegrass located at the University of Kentucky. The center helps children with and without special needs achieve their maximum potential in an integrated setting.
 
Touch a Truck is a unique and interactive event that allows children to climb on, climb in, see, touch, and safely explore their favorite big trucks and heavy machinery, as well as to meet the personnel who protect, serve, and build the Lexington community. Vehicles on display routinely include construction trucks, emergency responders, tractor trailers, utility trucks, as well as a hot-air balloon and helicopter. The event also features area mascots, special performances, snack bars, face painting, inflatables, games, and crafts.
 
“Touch-A-Truck” is a signature event for CDCB and we are thrilled to see it raise funds for such an important cause – children with special needs in our community,” said Bonnie Senft, chairperson of the event. “We have an outstanding variety of over 30 vehicles and activities this year and know that participants of all ages will have fun”.
 
The Child Development Center of the Bluegrass serves up to 164 children six-weeks of age to kindergarten eligible and provides quality preschool education and intervention services for children with and without special needs in an integrated classroom setting. When children with and without special needs are together in a integrated environment, both groups benefit.. This model program has served over 10,000 families at CDCB since 1958. Early intervention and therapy services provided for children with disabilities or developmental delays help maximize the children’s skills before they enter a primary education.
