LEXINGTON, Ky (8/28/2013)—As of April 2013 the unemployment rate in Lexington was 5.9 percent and just in two months the rate increased to 6.7 percent in June.
Still, there are job opportunities in Fayette County and by joining Job Club, sponsored by the University of Kentucky Alumni Association and the Fayette County Cooperative Extension Service, job seekers can increase the chances of finding employment.
Job Club this year and has served 250 job seekers and 45 businesses seeking employees. According to the club’s statistics, 82 percent were unemployed and 18 percent under-employed, with 43 percent being unemployed for six to 12 months and 22 percent being unemployed for more than 18 months.
Meetings are held on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month. Participants network and attend workshops on resume building, interviewing strategies, career management, LinkedIn, goal setting and money management.
The meetings are free of charge and are held at the Fayette County Cooperative Extension Office, 1140 Red Mile Place.
