LEXINGTON, Ky (9/2/2013)—UK Football fans were shocked to see the loss against Western Kentucky University on Saturday night. With the final score of 35-26, UK took its second consecutive loss to WKU.
“Rough day,” Coach Mark Stoops said after Saturday’s game, “I am not very pleased with the way that we played, and I thought we played better than that.”
With the excitement of a new season and a young team, Stoops was surprised to see the way the game had started out.
“We looked out of place,” said Stoops, “It was simple things like leverage on the football and defensive mistakes that were very poor.”
As a previous defensive coordinator, Stoops was aware that defensively the football team wasn’t performing the best that they could have.
“It was very hard and frustrating to see the defensive mistakes,” said Stoops, “What disappointed me was that these were base and fundamental things that I know we could do better on.”
Stoops thinks that offensively there were good things that happened, but in the bigger picture, they didn’t play well as a team.
“We will get back to work, win or lose after each game,” Stoops said, “we have to get some things fixed before the home opener next Saturday and we plan on doing that.”
The whole team is disappointed but the only thing they can do is work hard, realize their mistakes and prep for the next game.
“If we would’ve won this game we would’ve been right back at practice this week like we would have lost,” Stoop said, “there is always room for improvement.”
This Saturday the UK Football team will face off against Miami (Ohio) in the first home opener at Commonwealth Stadium. Game time 12 p.m.
