Consumer Chronicle: Local Grocery Stores

healthy eating 300LEXINGTON, Ky. (9/30/13) – There are a number of grocery stores in Lexington that can keep your fridge stocked with fresh vegetables, meats and other foods. Which one is the best choice for you?

• Whole Foods Market at 161 Lexington Green Circle has been a community partner for nine years. If you like to eat healthy and organic foods, Whole Foods is the place for you, as it is Central Kentucky’s certified-organic grocer. The store provides produce that is held to the highest standards and strictest regulations. None of the foods will have any artificial flavors, preservatives, colors, or hydrogenated oils. Whole Foods Market's hours are 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week. There's also a Wine & Spirits shop open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday.

• ALDI has two locations in Lexington; 1509 Colesbury Circle and 126 Rojay Drive. ALDI prides itself on energy-saving techniques to give high quality items and very low prices. You won't find plastic grocery bags at ALDI, but you are encouraged to bring your own reusable bag or purchase one at the checkout. The market sells 1,400 of the fastest-moving grocery items, allowing for lower rent and electricity costs and bigger savings for you. They also keep their prices low by accepting only cash, debit, and EBT cards. Also, their ALDI brands are made of the same or higher quality than national brands. Their hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

They're open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. The alcohol section is not open on Sunday.
