America's Got Talent Marty Brown's Rebirth

CENTRAL CITY (10/21/13) — Central City was treated to a free concert Saturday night.

The "bring your own lawn chair" night at the Clarence and Brenda Brewer Stage that faces Broad Street was kicked off, appropriately enough, with The Boys of Broad.

While the Boys of Broad got the crowd to their feet, Surfky.com News had a chance to talk with the headliner of the night, Marty Brown. Brown's life has been quite a ride since his breakthrough hit, "I'm From the Country and I Like it That Way", recorded by Tracy Byrd.

"Thanks to 'America's Got Talent' I have had somewhat of a rebirth, It really put me back out there, as far as almost a rebirth of my career." Brown said.

Making it to the semi-finals of the highly rated show has given Brown much wider audience. He says he will always value the words of wisdom the judges on the hit show gave him.

"They are all pros, and each one gave me good advice. They said 'Stay focused and go with what you know.' I took that to heart, and it's just been an amazing year." Brown said.

"Howard Stern even asked me for one of my cowboy hats,” said Brown. “I knew things were going my way the day after my San Antonio appearance on the show. I got up early to get my wife some coffee from McDonald's, and all these big old guys working construction saw me on the street. They got down off the scaffolding and came up and said, 'Man, your song just about made me cry.' That's when I knew things were going to happen for me again. To be able to touch the hearts of these hard working men, was a great feeling for me."

Brown said a new song he has written, "Whatever Makes You Smile," will be cut No. 1 on Trace Atkins' new album, "Love Will."

"This weekend I'll be back home, on stage at the Theatre Workshop of Owensboro,” said Brown. “Then I'm off to Connecticut and back down to Seymour, Ind. I thank God and my wife for this rebirth." Brown said as he grabbed his guitar and took to the stage.
