Hooked on Science - Bernoulli's Ping Pong Ball Launcher

hooked science 300KENTUCKY (12/31/13) - Using a few ingredients from around the house you can turn a plastic tube into a ping pong ball launcher.

INGREDIENTS
•Leaf Blower
•Ping Bong Balls
•Fluorescent Tube Guard with End Caps

INSTRUCTIONS
STEP 1: Remove one of the end caps from the fluorescent tube guard.

STEP 2: Fill the fluorescent tube guard more than half of the way with ping pong balls.

STEP 2: Place the leaf blower opening at an angle near the top of the fluorescent tube guard. Make sure you are not directly over the opening. Turn on the leaf blower and observe.

EXPLANATION
Bernoulli's Principle states as the speed increases, the pressure falls. The fast flow of air at the top of the fluorescent tube guard causes a low pressure to form. The higher pressure at the bottom of the fluorescent tube guard forces the ping pong balls up and out of the tube.
