LEXINGTON, Ky. (1/9/2014)—The Lexington Fire Department is offering free smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors and 9-volt batteries to Fayette County residents who are over the age of 50 or disabled. The department will also install the detectors, which were purchased using a federal grant.
Two-thirds of all residential fire deaths occur in homes without a working smoke detector, according to Lexington Fire Department Battalion Chief Joseph Best.
For more information about the smoke detector program contact Lexington Fire Department Community Services at 859-231-5668 or go to www.lexingtonky.gov/lexfire-education.
