Whitfield Congratulates Top Performing Muhlenberg Job Corp, Offers Guidance to Increase Students

whitfield ed official 300WASHINGTON (5/7/14) – U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield (KY-01), Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Energy and Power, congratulated the Muhlenburg Job Corps Center on being one of the top performing Job Corps Centers in the nation.

Earlier today the U.S. Department of Labor announced that it would begin issuing guidance to allow the top ranked Job Corps Centers to begin increasing student On-Board Strength numbers. The rankings are based on performance during the past three program years and will allow chosen centers to begin increasing student slots in high-performing Career Technical Training fields.

The Muhlenberg Job Corps Center has received numerous awards and recognitions for its outstanding career training services. Most recently, the Center’s Heavy Truck Driving program received top honors at the Horizons Youth Services Conference, placing third in the “Highest Performance CTT10” category. It is the Heavy Truck Driving Program that DOL has identified as being eligible for an OBS increase.

“As a founding member of the Congressional Job Corps Caucus, I remain committed to the continued success of the Job Corps Program. By working closely with my colleagues, I will continue to fight to ensure Job Corps receives adequate funding and that DOL is managing the program in a way that best meets the needs of its students. I recognize this important first step toward increasing OBS levels at all Job Corps Centers, and again congratulate the Muhlenberg Center on its continued success.”
