lourdes hybridPADUCAH, KY (4/25/12) – Lourdes is proud to announce its first successfully completed hybrid operating room procedure today. Lourdes cardiologist Dr. David Hogancamp performed a radial catheterization in the Montgomery Cardiac Hybrid Operating Room on 52-year old Barbara Gross of Fredonia.
“I was honored to be the first patient in the new hybrid operating room. I have had procedures done at Lourdes in the past, so I had complete confidence in the physicians and staff,” says Barbara Gross.
“The advanced technology of the hybrid OR allows us to perform procedures, secure in the knowledge that heart surgery is available immediately if it becomes necessary,” says. Dr. David Hogancamp.
In an emergency situation, physicians save time by performing an x-ray (angiogram) of the heart and opening vessels with stents or bypass in one room. Time saves heart muscle and saving heart muscle makes a significant difference in quality of life after a heart attack.
“This technology will “change the face of surgery,” says cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. James P. O’Rourke. “This hybrid OR combines the advanced imaging equipment of the cath lab with the sterility and overall capabilities of a full operating room.” “It allows us to perform “big” operations through tiny incisions with the aid of this excellent imaging that includes 3D capabilities.”
Lourdes first announced this $14.5 million dollar investment in February 2011. This investment includes three state-of-the-art heart catheterization labs, an advanced angiography suite, and two hybrid operating rooms. Lourdes is the only hospital in Kentucky, and one of the few locations in the country to offer both cardiac and endovascular hybrid operating rooms.
Lourdes endovascular hybrids will open next week.
