GOV SCHOLAR PROGPADUCAH, KY (5/3/12) – Paducah Tilghman juniors McKenzie Belt, Marissa Davis, Alicia Humphrey, Conner Layne, Catherine Miller, Katie Paxton, Victoria Potter, and Caroline Washer have been chosen to participate in the 2012 Governor's Scholars Program.
 
The Governor's Scholars Program is a prestigious five week summer program that is limited to 1,100 of the state's most outstanding students. Established in 1983, the program provides academic and personal growth through the balance of a strong liberal arts program with a full co-curricular and residential life experience. The scholars will convene this year at Bellarmine University, Centre College, and Murray State University.
 
McKenzie Belt is a member of the varsity soccer, basketball, and softball teams. She participates in concert choir. She is a member of NHS, Beta Club, Spanish Club, FCA, and Student Council. Belt has traveled to El Salvador and Honduras with Starfish Orphan Ministry and First Baptist Youth Group. She is a member of the Paducah Chamber YouthLEAD. She volunteers at Oscar Cross Boys and Girls Club, Heartland CARES, Rightway basketball, and Upward basketball. Her parents are Tim and Crystal Capps and David and Abbey Belt.
 
Marissa Davis is a member of the PTHS Student Council, Beta Club, National Honor Society, Recycling Club, choir and Academic Team. She is a 2011 Creative Writing alumnus of the Governor's School for the Arts, and a member of the McCracken Co. Chamber's YouthLEAD program. Her parents are Brad and Brigette Davis.
 
Alicia Humphrey is a member of the PTHS Orchestra, Choir, Concordia, Academic team, Future Problem Solving team, National Honor Society, and Student Council. She works as a volunteer at the Noble Park ball fields and sings in the choir at Southland Baptist Temple. Her parents are Danette and David Humphrey.
 
Conner Layne is a member of the varsity basketball and soccer teams. He is a member of NHS, Beta Club, Spanish Club, Recycling Club, and FCA. He is a member of First Baptist Church. His parents are Randy and Kelly Layne.
 
Catherine Miller is member of the soccer team, the academic team, Future Problem Solvers, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Beta Club, National Honor Society, and the Junior Historical Society of Kentucky. She is a member of First Baptist Church. Her parents are Bobby and Laurie Miller.
 
Katie Paxton is a member of the varsity tennis and volleyball teams. She participates in choir, Concordia, and speech team. She is a member of NHS, Beta Club, Spanish club, and the staff of the Tilghman Bell for 2012-13.  Paxton volunteers at Heartland CARES. She is an acolyte and member of the youth group at Grace Episcopal. Her parents are Richard and Cheri Paxton.
 
Victoria Potter is a PTHS cheerleader. She is a member of the Tennis, Cross Country, Speech, and Mock Trial teams. She participates in Student Council, Recycling Club, Spanish Club, National Honor Society, and Beta Club.  Potter volunteers with Teen Court, Youth Lead, and the QuickStart tennis program. She is a member of Immanuel Baptist youth group. Her parents are Keith and Tammy Potter.
 
Caroline Washer is a member of the varsity soccer team and Future Problem Solving team. She participates in PTHS orchestra and choir. She is member of FCA, Beta Club, and NHS.  Washer is a member of the Broadway Church of Christ youth group. She volunteers at Superior Care Nursing Home. Her parents are Shawn and Lonna Washer.
