PADUCAH, KY (5/16/12) - On April 8, 2012, Jean and Gerald Smallwood, the owners of West Kentucky Painting, reported a 2007 Chevrolet pickup truck stolen from the business. The Smallwood’s also reported that the gate to the business had been damaged, which was due to the truck being driven through it.
On April 10th, the McCracken County Sheriff’s department received information that Robert J. Middleton, 38, had possibly taken the truck from his former employer (West KY Painting) and left it at a truck stop in Biloxi, Mississippi.
The morning the truck was stolen from West Kentucky Painting, a pickup truck belonging to Middleton was found on Bleich Road and had been involved in a single vehicle accident. It was later discovered that after Middleton wrecked his truck, he made his way to the business and stole the truck.
On May 15th, deputies conducted a traffic stop on Olivet Church Road and apprehended Middleton, who was the driver of the vehicle. Middleton was initially arrested on a bench warrant for a probation violation and further investigation revealed he stole the truck from West Kentucky Painting.
Middleton was served a Bench Warrant (Probation violation) and charged with Theft by Unlawful Taking O/$500 (Vehicle).
