PADUCAH, KY (5/23/12) – At approximately 1:47 P.M on Tuesday, May 22, McCracken Co. Deputies were dispatched to the scene of a four-vehicle accident on the I-24 bridge.
Once on the scene, Deputies found that a semi driven by 64-year-old John McCue of Saint Croix Falls Wisconsin was traveling west on the I-24 bridge when vehicles in front of him had slowed for construction work. McCue was unable to stop in time to avoid hitting a 2002 Chrysler van driven by 69-year-old Myron Johnson and his passenger, 67-year-old Susan Johnson of Westfield Illinois. The Johnson vehicle was pushed into a 2012 Toyota driven by 72-year-old Roger Hannan of Olmsted, Illinois. A fourth vehicle, a 2005 Dodge 3500 driven by 43-year-old James Mathis of Boaz and his wife Christina Mathis, 40 of Boaz, and passengers Steve Boyd, 45, and his wife Kelly Boyd, 35, of Hickory KY were traveling west on I-24 when the semi in front of them stopped suddenly, causing their vehicle to run into the rear of the semi.
Christina Mathis, Kelly Boyd, Steve Boyd and Susan Johnson were all transported to Baptist Hospital by Mercy EMS for non-life threatening injuries.
