Cairo Road Accident Injures One

accident injuries amb 300PADUCAH, KY (5/25/12) – A single vehicle accident involving a 1999 Chevrolet pickup truck sent 62-year-old Clarence E. Garnett to Western Baptist Hospital for treatment. The accident was reported at approximately 5 a.m., but Mr. Garnett, who was trapped in the truck, stated that he had been in the vehicle for some time before being discovered.

The accident occurred on Cairo Road in the area of Schmitt Farms. The investigation revealed that Mr. Garnett was traveling westbound on Cairo Road prior to the accident and failed to negotiate a curve and ran off the roadway. His truck traveled through a ditch and then struck a utility pole guide-wire before striking a tree head-on.

Mr. Garnett was freed from the wreckage by firefighters from the Concord and Paducah Fire Departments. He was then transported to Western Baptist Hospital for treatment of his injuries. Cairo Road was reduced to one lane for approximately one hour to enable emergency crews to extricate and treat Mr. Garnett.
