dance1PADUCAH, Ky. (3/27/13) – Lourdes’ Relay For Life team broke another fundraising record Saturday night at the 7th annual Lourdes Dancing with Our Stars event at Harrah’s in Metropolis, IL. Leading the state of Kentucky in 2012, Lourdes Relay For Life team was awarded the #1 Team in Kentucky, the #2 in the Mid-South Division and the #4 Team in the World. Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society’s signature activity.

Through sponsorships, silent auction, ticket sales, and the lively “voting” for dancers, the Lourdes team raised a record-setting $237,000 for the American Cancer Society. The event pairs local celebrities with professional dance instructors.

New for this year included cell phone technology that allowed new ways to bid on silent auction items. The night also is a chance to honor cancer survivors. Ashley Storie, a 29 year-old brain cancer survivor, was recognized for her courageous fight against the disease. She was diagnosed at 25 and is now cancer free.

This year’s celebrities were Kim Homra, John Denton, Dr. John Ballert, Dr. HW Ford, David Boggs, Dr. Carl Baker, Dan Stovesand, Donald Shively, Brandon Barnhill, Dr. Matthew Mangino, Dia Canter, Carolyn Morgan, Marissa Hollowed, Lori Brown, Amanda Casebier, Joy Lentz, Scottye Williams, Roxie Jarvis and Nicole Edwards.
