pad school art 300PADUCAH, Ky. (4/27/13) – Paducah School of Art has changed its name to the Paducah School of Art & Design to reflect an expanded vision for its programming, which includes graphic design, officials announced.
 
The name change takes effect immediately and is accompanied by a new logo and enhanced Internet presence. It also accompanies the art school’s Annual Spring Open House, April 26 and 27, and the start of construction on the art school’s new 7,000-square-foot sculpture facility, located adjacent to the recently renovated studios at Madison Hall in Lower Town. The need for identifying signage at these new facilities also played a role in the timing of the name change and rebranding for the art school.
 
The Paducah School of Art & Design, a division of West Kentucky Community and Technical College, offers an Associate in Fine Arts degree, as well as studio art classes for students of all levels and disciplines. Classes are offered on WKCTC’s campus; at 409 Broadway, in downtown Paducah; and at Madison Hall in Lower Town.
 
“These are exciting times for Paducah School of Art & Design, and the name change reflects our continued progress toward a comprehensive art school and campus,” said Paul Aho, dean of Paducah School of Art & Design. “By adding design and media to the Associate in Fine Arts degree program, we support WKCTC’s mission of training for high wage jobs, along with the needs of traditional fine art students seeking degrees and transfer for advanced study within the field of design and media.”
 
The name change, new logo and web presence are all designed to enhance the art school’s efforts to recruit regional high school students, while continuing to move the school toward greater national recognition. The logo design and web presence changes have been created by Paducah designer and native Nathan Brown of Solid Rocket Media. The art school’s web presence will continue to expand into an increasingly interactive device and resource for the community.
