Injury Accident at the Intersection of Benton Road and Pugh Road

Accident Injury 01 blue 300McCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky. (5/23/13) – On May 22, 2013 at approximately 5:01 PM, McCracken County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to an injury accident on Benton Road at the intersection of Pugh Road.
 
Upon arrival, Deputies located a male subject lying on the ground and a yellow moped off the eastbound side of the roadway with several pieces of debris in the roadway. Investigation showed that 17-year-old Steven Walters of Paducah, KY was operating a 2008 Ishimotor 50 cc moped eastbound on Benton Road when he Walters attempted to make a left turn onto Pugh Road but was struck by a motorist attempting to pass Walters. James Owens, 77, of Paducah, KY was operating a 2003 Ford Van eastbound just behind Walters. Mr. Owens attempted to pass Walters in a passing zone without realizing Walters was making a left turn. Walters made contact with the front passenger fender and wheel of Owen’s vehicle causing Walters to be ejected from the moped.
 
Walters was taken to a nearby hospital for non-life threatening injuries and Owens was not injured.
 
Larry Meadow’s Towing assisted at the scene, as well as Reidland-Farley Fire Department. The roadway was closed for approximately 30 minutes for clean-up.
