PADUCAH, Ky. (6/27/13) – On Wednesday, June 26, at approximately 9:30 PM, Deputies with the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department responded to the 1000 Block of Oaks for a single-vehicle injury accident.
Upon arrival, it was found that Shawn Moore, 37, of Paducah was operating a 1998 Ford Explorer eastbound on Oaks Road. As Moore approached the 1000 block of Oaks Road, he exited the roadway and struck a utility pole. The collision caused the utility pole to snap and the power lines came to rest on top of Moore’s vehicle which had overturned onto its side. Moore and his passenger, Tera Conner, 40, of Paducah, were trapped inside the vehicle for approximately 50 minutes while emergency crews worked to remove the power wires and free both occupants from the vehicle.
Members of the Paducah Power Systems utility company responded to the scene to assist in the disconnection and removal of power lines. This allowed emergency crews from the Reidland Farley Fire Department and Mercy Regional Ambulance services to extricate both Moore and Conner.
After being extricated, both Moore and Conner were transported to a local hospital where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries.
It was determined that Moore was operating his motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision and was also the main contributing factor in causing the collision. Several residences on Oaks Road were without power while power crews fixed and replaced the damaged utility pole and wires.
The roadway was closed for approximately 4 hours.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Reidland Farley Fire Department, Mercy Regional Ambulance Service, Paducah Power Systems, and the Department of Emergency Management.
Moore was later released from the hospital where he was immediately taken into custody and lodged in the McCracken County Jail.
Moore was charged with the following: Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Drugs/ Alcohol-1st Offense(Aggravating Circumstances), Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree, , and Criminal Mischief 1st Degree.
