arrest2 green 300PADUCAH, Ky. (7/18/13) – The McCracken County Sheriff's Department began investigating, a couple of weeks ago, complaints from a Paducah area woman who had been receiving multiple obscene telephone calls from a man that would block his telephone number when calling. The man would make obscene comments and gestures to the woman.

Sheriff's detectives obtained telephone records from the telephone carrier in an attempt to identify where the calls were coming from. Once obtaining those records, they additionally obtained records that contained telephone numbers of others that calls had been made to from this same telephone number.

In contacting numerous area women whose numbers had appeared on the records, detectives learned that these women had also in fact been receiving obscene telephone calls from a blocked number, during the same time frame as was specified in the telephone records.

At approximately 4:00 PM on Wednesday, July 17, detectives located the suspect who was identified as being 53-year-old Brian D. Strawser at a location in downtown Paducah.

The suspect denied that he even owned a cellphone then requested an attorney, refusing to answer any questions.

He was at that point arrested and charged with four counts of harassing communications, for making obscene, blocked calls to separate women. There was also on outstanding arrest warrant served on him for leaving the scene of an accident.

Sheriff's detectives then obtained a search warrant at around 6PM for Strawser's residence located in the 8200 block of Old Mayfield Road, in the Fremont community of southern McCracken County. During that search, numerous items of evidence connected to this investigation was found and seized, including the cell phone belonging to the suspect that these calls were made from.

The suspect is a painter by trade and it is believed that he had met these women in part through him doing work either for them, or by other affiliations, or by meeting them in other situations. None of the calls were random in nature.

Detectives late Wednesday, continue to identify additional women that have received obscene telephone calls from this individual, but that had just not been reported to authorities. The investigation is continuing as the suspects’ cellphone records continue to be analyzed. Additional counts are expected as the investigation continues.

Strawser has previous convictions for Harassing Communications, Possession of Cocaine, and received a 15 year sentence for Arson in 2007, and is currently on felony probation.

Strawser is lodged in the McCracken County Jail
