girl project 2

LEXINGTON, Ky. (8/27/13)—The Girl Project, the Kentucky Conservatory Theatre’s arts an activism initiative, has brought 18 high school girls to together to provide a performance this weekend to promote self-esteem and confidence.

The 2012-2013 Girl Project consists of girls who attend Fayette County Public Schools who have had self-image issues and want to speak out and help other girls in their community. They worked with artists from across the nation to put together a show that will be eye opening and touching to those who come to watch.

The girls will perform an original work inspired by themes of power, history, identity, objectification and more at The Downtown Arts Center in Lexington, Ky. August 30 and 31 at 7:30 p.m. and September 1 at 2:00 p.m.

‘Through spoken word, physical expression and multimedia, The Girl Project will examine the internal and external pressures of body image that teenage girls struggle with day to day and how these pressures affect the development of their self esteem,” according to a statement from the group.
