Collision with Injuries on US63/Kerth Road Intersection

Accident Injury 01 red 300McCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky. (9/11/13) – On Tuesday, September 10, the Sheriff’s Department was dispatched at 11:55AM to the intersection on US62 and Kerth road near the McCracken Marshall county line for a two vehicle collision, semi vs. SUV.

The investigation showed that Ronnie Witherspoon, 45, from Princeton, KY was traveling eastbound on US62 in a 2003 Mack semi-tractor trailer when he looked down so he could get his soft drink. Witherspoon stated that when he looked back up at the road he saw that a vehicle had stopped, waiting to make a left-hand turn onto Kerth road. Witherspoon hit the brakes to avoid a rear-end collision, causing the unloaded semi to cross the centerline as it began to jack knife.

As the vehicle that waited to turn onto Kerth road heard the semi skidding, he sped forward to avoid being struck. But when the semi crossed the centerline he struck the left side of a 2004 GMC Envoy driven by Amanda Shumaker, 43, from Benton KY. Shumakers’ vehicle left the roadway and struck a street sign before coming to rest in the ditch.

Shumaker was transported to Lourdes E.R. to be checked for injuries. Also on scene was Mercy Regional ambulance and the Reidland Farley Fire Department.
