Public’s Assistance Helps Apprehend Suspect in Stolen Credit Card Cases

credit card theftPADUCAH, Ky. (9/13/13) – September 13, 2013, Richard B. McKinney, 42, Princeton, Ky., was charged with a McCracken County Warrant for two counts of Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card. The charges are a result of the following:
 
On the morning of August 28, 2013, Jessica Roberson, who resides on Benton Road in Reidland, reported a theft from her vehicle. Roberson stated sometime between 5:00 p.m. on August 27th and 7:00 a.m. on August 28th, someone entered her unlocked vehicle and stole a credit card from her purse. After discovering the theft, Roberson contacted the credit card company and discovered someone had already used the credit card at the Southside Wal-Mart in Paducah.
 
On August 31st, Angela Wilson, who resides on Brentwood Drive in Reidland, reported that she believed her credit card was stolen from her vehicle. Wilson stated sometime between August 30th and 31st, her credit card came up missing from her vehicle. After discovering the credit card missing, Wilson contacted her credit card company and discovered it had been used at Southside Wal-Mart in Paducah.
 
After obtaining video surveillance from Wal-Mart regarding the Roberson and Wilson thefts, detectives discovered the suspect purchased several items with the victim’s credit cards, totaling $564.78.
 
After observing the suspect on the news, citizens contacted the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department regarding the possible identity of the suspect. Upon further investigation and the assistance of the Kentucky Probation and Parole Office and the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Department, McKinney was able to be identified and located.
 
After a search of the residence that McKinney was staying (Princeton), Detective Chris Noles of the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Department was able to locate clothing that McKinney was observed wearing in the Wal-Mart surveillance video, and most of the items McKinney had purchased with the stolen credit cards.
 
At the time McKinney was located, he was already lodged in the Caldwell County Jail on assault and probation violation charges. Additional charges will be sought by probation and parole regarding the probation violation which resulted from the McCracken County charges.
