$10 million Building To Go Up on Veteran’s Boulevard

under construction2 300OWENSBORO, Ky. (10/11/13) -The newly revamped downtown area of Owensboro will soon see yet another major aesthetic change in Smother’s Park.

A property was sold recently for approximately $10 million where the Mexican restaurant El Toribio on Veteran’s Boulevard is currently located. The existing structure will be torn down and replaced with a 10,000 square foot, four to five story building.

The bottom area will have enough space to hold two to three restaurants with an outdoor seating area, and the upper floors will be office space, said Downtown Project Manager Joe Berry.

“It’s a very exciting project,” Berry said. “The Economic Development Council and the city envisioned Veteran’s Boulevard as a true pedestrian corridor.”

This particular area of downtown is home to businesses, retail stores, and residential space, making it optimal for visitors and citizens, said Berry. In the last six years, the city has invested $100 million in the downtown infrastructure with no end in sight.

The project is projected to begin in January.
