mcc2 300HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. (10/30/13) - Madisonville Community College's Cultural Diversity Committee will be hosting PTSD informational sessions on November 6 and November 7 from 12:20 p.m. - 12:50 p.m. each day in the Multipurpose Room (1st floor/John H. Gray Building - North Campus). Titled "Veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in the Classroom" and presented by Jeff Clark, the presentation will familiarize the audience with the process of PTSD and some crucial avenues for helping veterans succeed in the classroom. There will be an overview of the history, definition, and symptoms of PTSD along with a brief look into the world only a trauma survivor or combat veteran can see. Ways that learning can be facilitated for the combat veteran will also be addressed.

Presenter Jeff Clark has been a registered nurse for 19 years with experience in specialty areas such as emergency room nursing and critical care transport. He received both his Associate and Bachelor degrees from Eastern Kentucky University. He is retired from the United States Military where he instituted new programs such as Combat Medic and Air Evac. Clark has presented on the state and national level for Veterans Advocacy and Wounded Warrior with emphasis on veterans returning to the classroom with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). Currently, he is an Associate Professor of Practical Nursing at Somerset Community College.
