FEMA Finally Reimburses County for Ice Storm of 2009

icestorm 2009MUHLENBERG COUNTY, Ky. (2/15/14) – It is doubtful that anyone has forgotten the historic ice storm of 2009.

According to Muhlenberg Judge Executive Rick Newman and the Muhlenberg Fiscal Court, which met Thursday, FEMA has just recently returned the full $428,000 which was taken from the county's general fund when the disaster struck.

Newman said the money originally came from the county's general fund.

According to the Kentucky Division of Emergency Management, the storm affected every county in the state.

When asked by SurfKY News what the holdup was in returning the funds to Muhlenberg County, Newman said it's anyone's guess.

"There's a lot of finger pointing from Frankfort to Washington. FEMA said the state had the funds, and the state said FEMA had it," Newman said.

According to the fiscal court, FEMA has returned the full amount of $428,000.

"Now, we have finally received the total amount owed. It just took a little while to get it," Newman said.
