METROPOLIS, Ill. (3/16/14) — Quilting, an American tradition, will be celebrated at 'Quilt Show at The Hotel Metropolitan' April 24 through April 26.
Dr. Michael J. Wade and Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church Choir will be the main guests at the Quilt Exhibit Opening Thursday, April 24.
A program delivered by Dr. Carolyn Mazloomi entitled: "A Legacy Revealed: African American Quilts From Improvisation", will be heard at 10:30 Friday, April 25. The lecture examines the historical and cultural significance of quilts made in the African American Community. A Fish Fry will follow at 11 a.m.
Dr. Alicestyne Turley will then deliver the program: "John Brown's Subterranean Passage-Way", at 1 p.m. Friday.
Exhibit hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.
Admission is $7.
Friday's Fish Fry will have plates for $10 and sandwiches for $5.50.The hotel is located at 724 Oscar Cross Avenue, Metropolis, IL.
