Lloyd-Tilghman-House--Civil-War-Museum-PaducahPADUCAH, Ky. (3/18/14) — The 150th anniversary of the Battle of Paducah, March 25, 1864, will be commemorated at the Lloyd Tilghman House & Civil War Museum and McCracken County Library as part of the Civil War Sesquicentennial.

The following events have been scheduled:

  • Saturday, March 22: Lloyd Tilghman House & Civil War Museum will host an Open House in honor of the Battle of Paducah, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. The Museum is housed in an 1852 Greek Revival home owned by the Sons of Confederate Veterans that was once the residence of Gen. Lloyd Tilghman, CSA. Exhibits highlight Western Kentucky's pivotal role in the War Between the States. Open Tues.-Sat., Noon - 4 p.m., April - November and tours by appointment throughout the year.

  • Tuesday, March 25: Battle of Paducah Interpretation & Discussion at McCracken County Library, 6 - 8 p.m., by Bill Baxter, Director of the Lloyd Tilghman House & Civil War Museum. Baxter will explain the events of March 25, 1864 and the Battle of Paducah's impact on the City and the Civil War. The McCracken County Library connects people, ideas and cultures through programs and discussions including Evenings Upstairs, Discussions from Off the Shelf and Live at the Library.

Paducah’s rivers and rails played a pivotal role in the War Between the States as the city’s proximity to four major rivers and northern railroad connections made it a desired territory. The Civil War sesquicentennial anniversary creates an opportunity to explore the city’s role through special programs, museum exhibits and historic markers.
