mccracken sheriff 01 300PADUCAH, Ky. (4/4/14) — McCracken County Sheriff's Detectives arrested a pair of Paducah men Thursday afternoon following a traffic stop.

Detectives with the McCracken County Sheriff's Department drug division observed a vehicle that had just left a high crime area.

One of the occupants in the vehicle was not wearing a seat belt. Detectives conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle near the intersection of Jefferson and North 22nd Streets in Paducah. The driver, Arthur Reed, 29, immediately fled and was apprehended after an approximate 50-yard foot chase.

During a search of Reed, detectives seized approximately 12 grams of Crack Cocaine, 16 grams of Marijuana, 20 doses of Hydrocodone, Spice (Synthetic Marijuana) and a undisclosed amount of U.S. currency. A records check revealed that Reed's drivers license was suspended for prior offenses.

The passenger of the vehicle was identified as Douglas Arnold, 68. Detectives conducted a search of the vehicle and seized additional controlled substances.

A subsequent investigation revealed that Arnold had just sold the Hydrocodone pills to Reed prior to the stop.

Deputies and detectives then went to a local hotel where they learned Reed had been staying. During a search of the hotel room, deputies recovered additional US currency and evidence of drug trafficking.

Reed has an extensive criminal history involving assaults and illegal drugs. He has been charged and convicted of fleeing or evading police on at least three prior occasions.

Both men were lodged in the McCracken County Regional Jail.
