Yeiser-Art-CtrPADUCAH, Ky. (6/9/14) — Yeiser Art Center is pleased to be hosting the Paducah Photo 2014 International Competition and Exhibition, one of the Mid-South's most prestigious annual photographic events, June 7 - July 26, 2014.

The Regional Show will be displayed simultaneously in the lobby the Maiden Alley Cinema, 112 Maiden Alley, Paducah, Ky. 42001.

We hope that all will plan to visit both amazing displays of photography.

The opening reception will be held June 7, from 5-7 p.m. at the Yeiser Art Center.

The YAC received more than 300 entries from around the world for the Paducah Photo 2014 competition and exhibition. Of those submissions, 76 works were selected for this year's exhibition.

Originating in 1975, The Paducah Summer Festival Photo Competition has grown from a fledgling contest to Paducah Photo, the region's most prestigious annual photographic event. It is open to all without restrictions on size or content. It provides photographers with an outlet for their art, encouragement for growth in their vision and presentation, and cash awards for works of exceptional merit. Each year from the hundreds of works submitted, images are selected for exhibition by a highly qualified juror, with 14 of them receiving cash awards.

We are delighted to announce that, Mary Ann Redding served as this years' juror. She has been the Chair of Photography Department at the Santa Fe University of Art & Design since January 2012.

Mary-Ann-ReddingMary Ann Redding"I am thrilled to have been asked to jury this year's Paducah Photo 2014 exhibition. As an educator (I teach the history of contemporary photography), arts administrator, and curator, I have to not-so-secretly admit that curatorial activities are my favorite way to spend time," said Redding. "Having the opportunity to jury Paducah's photography exhibition permits an opportunity to see contemporary images that I might not otherwise view. I hope not only to select interesting individual images but also to put together a cohesive and strong exhibition for the Yeiser Art Center that continues your rich history of promoting the best in international photography. For some time now, photography has been gripped in the throes of rapid and on-going explosions since anyone with a cell phone can instantly share their images with the world. But the true language of photography remains a deep sensitivity to the nuances of light. I am interested in the intersections where creative photographic impulses translate into true talent through a passionate commitment to the medium, attention to one's craft, and the persuasive powers of communication."

Yeiser Art Center's mission of developing the appreciation of the visual arts and nurturing the creative spirit played an important role in Paducah's designation as the world's seventh City of Crafts and Folk Art by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. Membership in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network cultivated this exciting new opportunity with Santa Fe, New Mexico, also appointed a UNESCO City of Design, Crafts and Folk Art.

Yeiser Art Center looks forward to the partnership with Mary Anne Redding and the Santa Fe University of Art & Design Photography Department. The potential to optimize, reach and grow the Paducah Photo exhibition is thrilling.

Located in downtown Paducah, the Yeiser Art Center is a non-profit visual arts organization celebrating more than fifty years of serving the community through exhibitions and education throughout the Tri-State Region.
