BBQ, Music, Classic Cars Make Rods N Ribs a Hit

8-Late-evening-scene-crowd-CENTRAL CITY, Ky. (6/9/14) — It was a fun day in Central City as hundreds gathered to celebrate the Rods and Ribs festival.

In the morning and early afternoon, there were many vintage cars to look at and always someone excited to talk about the vehicle they brought to the festival.

Bob Atwood brought an electric bike he had built from the ground up. "Electric bikes are not new,” said Atwood. “But I just wanted to build a unique bike following the Federal Electric Bike Law." His bike looks like a three-wheeled car. Atwood said he built the fiberglass molds himself. The bike has a one-horse power engine and storage area in the back to hold items that may need to be carried.

Atwood's creation, was indeed, truly unique in the show.

There were several people making barbecue with one of them being Arthur Salisbury with his BBQ stand. He, like many others, sold out of ribs by the end of the night with some stands selling out their entire product.

In the early afternoon, the festival featured a cornhole tournament. It was a double-elimination tournament. Several teams entered the tournament but in the end, Andrew Epley and partner Chris Freels took first place in the tournament. Second place was taken by Ty Phelps and Shawn Freels.

Many people waited all day for the music but when rain threatened some people and classic cars headed home. However, as the weather cleared up, and as the threat of rain passed, the crowds grew to watch the live music. The band Copperhead Road went over well as many waited for Confederate Railroad.

Rita and Teddy Tooley were among audience listening to Copperhead Road. Rita Tooley said twhile she enjoyed the band, she was waiting for Confederate Railroad. When Confederate Railroad took the stage, the excited crowd was not disappointed.

The band played hard from the start.
