KSP Post 1 Says Goodbye to Two Retiring Employees

ksp2 logo 300HICKORY, Ky. (8/2/14) — The Kentucky State Police Post 1 recently honored two employees as they prepare to retire July 31, 2013.

Sergeant Ryan Dawson was honored July 15, 2014 and Shari Clapp, Post 1 Radio Room Supervisor was honored on July 17, 2014.

Sergeant Dawson began his career with the Kentucky State Police in January, 1998. After graduating from the Kentucky State Police Academy in June, 1998 he was assigned to the Mayfield Post.

Throughout his career he has had numerous assignments within the agency:

  • 1998-2006 Trooper, Post 1, Mayfield

  • 2006-2008 Sergeant, Post 2, Madisonville

  • 2008-2014 Sergeant, Post 1, Mayfield

Sergeant Dawson received two, Official Letter of Commendation’s from the State Police Commissioner, during his career. He was awarded a Commissioner’s Commendation for a life saving action while assigned to the Madisonville Post. During his tenure with the State Police SGT Dawson was selected to be on a humanitarian detail in New Orleans during hurricane Katrina and was sworn in as a Louisiana State Trooper. Prior to joining the Kentucky State Police Sergeant Dawson worked for the Murray Police Department. He currently resides in Calloway County with his wife and two children.

Radio Room Supervisor Shari Clapp began her career with the Kentucky State Police in February, 1987. After graduating from Telecommunicator basic training course in June, 1987 she assumed her duties at the Mayfield Post.

Clapp received an Official Letter of Commendation’s from the State Police Commissioner, in 1998 for her dedication to duty and professionalism during the manhunt for the escaped fugitives from the Kentucky State Penitentiary located in Eddyville, Ky. Clapp was nominated for the Commissioner’s Award for her life saving role in giving CPR instructions to the family of a juvenile drowning victim, Clapp was promoted to Radio room Supervisor on Sept. 17, 2002. Clapp currently serves as the Chair of the Purchase Area Development District’s E-911 Board. As a result of her years of unparalleled experience, Clapp was appointed as Grant Manager for the on-going dispatch consolidation project with Mayfield City. Clapp has been the Mayfield Civilian Employee of the Year for 2013.

Clapp resides in Graves County with her husband.
