drug arrest prescription 04 300PADUCAH, Ky. (8/26/14) — Detectives with the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department arrested two men Monday in Paducah after observing a drug transaction on a Paducah business parking lot.

On Aug 25 at approximately 11:30 a.m. detectives with the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department observed two men conducting what appeared to be a drug transaction. Detectives stopped one of the men as the two left the area. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Charles “Dean” Hackney, 59, of Marion Ky.

Detectives learned that during the course of the stop that Hackney had just filled a prescription for 120 doses of the Hydrocodone at a local pharmacy. More than 70 doses were missing from the bottle found in the vehicle. Hackney was arrested and charged with trafficking in a second degree controlled substance-Hydrocodone.

The investigation revealed that Hackney had just sold 70 doses of Hydrocodone to John Mize, 43, of Ledbetter Ky., just prior to the stop. Detectives located and arrested Mize on the parking lot of another business located at 509 Lone Oak Road at approximately 1 p.m. Mize is charged with trafficking in a second degree controlled substance-Hydrocodone.

Both men were unemployed at the time of their arrest.

Detectives seized additional doses of Hydrocodone and cash from both men that was believed to be proceeds of illegal drug sales.

Both men were lodged in the McCracken County Regional Jail.
