City-County Spring Clean Up Day Set

recycle tire 300PADUCAH, Ky. (4/2/13) – Do you know what’s hiding in the back of your garage? If you don’t, then it may be time to do some spring cleaning. You may find items that would be perfect for a yard sale, but there may items such as old cans of paint, bags of trash, an old tire, or a bag full of empty aluminum cans that would be perfect to take to the annual Paducah-McCracken County Spring Clean Up Day. The event, for Paducah and McCracken County residents only, will be Saturday, April 13, 7 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Spring Clean Up Day is a free service, rain or shine.

Spring Clean Up Day, commonly referred to as “dump day”, is an opportunity to dispose of various types of solid and household hazardous waste. Accepted items include household trash, white goods, tires, household hazardous waste, ammunition, expired or no longer needed prescription medications, and recyclables including e-scrap. No medical waste or commercial waste will be accepted. Recyclables and household hazardous waste items are off-loaded last in line. Please separate your items to make the trip go quicker.

All residents must bring proper identification (such as a driver’s license) to verify residency. Spring Clean Up Day is held at the CWI Transfer and Recycling Station at 829 Burnett Street and on the adjacent parking lot of the Paducah Public Works facility on North 10th Street. To maintain the traffic flow, drivers need to enter the CWI facility either from North 10th or Burnett Streets. Traffic will not be allowed to enter from North 8th or 9th Streets.

During the 2012 Spring Clean Up Day, 697 vehicles went through the line to dispose of more than 199 tons of household trash, white goods, and scrap metal. That tonnage is in addition to the tires, recyclables, hazardous materials, prescriptions, and ammunition collected.

Spring Clean Up Day is funded in part through a Household Hazardous Waste Grant through the Kentucky Division of Waste Management. Partners include AES Environmental, LLC, City of Paducah, Republic Services, GPSP-Recycle Now, Liberty Tire, McCracken County, McCracken County Sheriff’s Department, McCracken County DES/EM, and Paducah Power System.
