theft crabtreePADUCAH, Ky. (4/17/13) – On Tuesday, April 16, at approximately 3:21 PM, McCracken County Sheriff Deputies received a complaint of a theft of a farming plow on Woodville Road.

Deputies were able to canvass the area and observe an area in a wooded field just beside 8375 Woodville Road where the plow had been sitting. The victim stated that it was an old plow that would cost him approximately $650 to replace and he went to this property that was owned by his sister to retrieve the item to use. Victim called the Sheriff’s Department to investigate the theft. Upon further investigation, deputies learned that the suspect, 30-year-old Benjamin Crabtree of West Paducah, had spoken to the landlord of the neighboring property and she advised him that she could not give him permission but to seek information from the PVA office of the owner of the property. Crabtree admitted to unlawfully entering upon the property and using a chainsaw to cut down two small trees and using a chain to drag the plow out of the wooded area on April 9.

Crabtree stated that he came back the next day and loaded the plow onto a trailer and took it to River City Metals to be scrapped. Before making contact with Crabtree, Deputy Jerry Jones was able to check area businesses that take scrap and was able to retrieve video at River City Metals of Crabtree entering the business with the plow, driving his pickup truck registered to him with a trailer attached.

Deputies were able to gain information with the help of Paducah Police Department about the whereabouts of Crabtree due to the fact that he had not changed his address on his operator’s license. Deputies located Crabtree and Crabtree admitted to taking the plow from the property and depriving the victim of his property.

Crabtree was ultimately taken into custody, lodged into McCracken County Jail and charged with the theft of the farm equipment along with two other charges.
