PADUCAH, KY (12/2/11) – Earlier this week, the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department and the Reidland Farley Fire Department, alongside the Mercy Regional Ambulance Service, responded to the scene of an accident just west of exit 11 on Interstate 24.
Once on the scene, investigators found that a 1994 Oldsmobile Alero driven by 18-year-old Richard Guzman of Paducah had been westbound on I-24 when, for unknown reasons, he ran off the roadway and collided with the outside lane guardrail face and bridge wall. The vehicle then crossed the westbound lanes and collided with the opposite bridge wall.
One passenger, 23-year-old Matthew Mayo of Paducah was ejected from the car and is listed in critical condition. A second passenger, 17-year-old Michael Morrison of Paducah was also treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The driver, Richard Guzman, fled the scene. On Dec. 1, Guzman was located after a warrant was issued and was arrested on one count of leaving the scene of an accident and failure to render aid.
