phi 300GREENVILLE, KY (10/3/12) – PHI Air Medical announced today a community-wide effort to educate the community and raise awareness for breast cancer in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness month. The campaign includes a several unique giveaway items and information pieces that are designed to educate and promote the facts surrounding breast cancer, the leading cause of cancer deaths for women ages 20-59.

“As a company, we understand firsthand the devastating impact breast cancer has on the women and families of our community,” explained, Erik Rohde, Regional Director. “We are dedicated to improving the health of our community not just by responding to emergencies, but through proactive activities to help raise awareness for important causes such as this. We are here for our community and are excited about the opportunity to reach so many men and women through our Flying for the Cure campaign this year.”

While breast cancer programs are designed to raise awareness, still, too few across the country truly know the facts regarding breast cancer, which can be startling:
• 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed in their lifetime
• 40,000 die each year from the disease
• Every 14 minutes a life is lost to breast cancer

While the facts can be frightening to many women, the fact that early detection is key to saving lives is often overlooked. The focus of PHI Air Medical’s efforts this year is to encourage regular self-examinations, mammograms, as well as overall awareness.

“People ask why we are so passionate about this issue,” continued Rohde. “It is because these women represent our mothers, sisters, wives, as well as the thousands of women we work with in the community and throughout PHI. We are committed to raising awareness for this important cause because we believe that when you know the facts, you are able to make a difference.”

PHI Air Medical is committed to engaging and informing local communities on critical health related issues and aggressively supports several key initiatives throughout the year, including Alcohol Awareness, Women’s Heart Health, Water Safety and Men’s Health issues. Their crews and professionals in communities across the country are dedicated to addressing these important issues by providing their time, educational materials and support through local events.
