pedestrian auto accident 01 300GREENVILLE, Ky. (1/16/13) – The Kentucky State Police (KSP) investigated an injury collision involving a Greenville Police Officer that occurred on KY 189, in the limits of Greenville, on Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at approximately 12:01 p.m.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Greenville Police Department Officer Wes Miller was conducting a traffic stop on the southbound shoulder of KY 189. Greenville Police Chief Darren Harvey had pulled in behind Officer Miller to assist with the traffic stop.

Elizabeth Gentry, age 62 of Central City, KY, was operating a 2012 Chevrolet Volt southbound on KY 189 approaching the traffic stop. Nathan Berry, age 41 of Dunmor, KY, was operating a 1995 Jeep Cherokee northbound on KY 189. Ms. Gentry crossed into the northbound lane to distance herself from the traffic stop.

Ms. Gentry’s vehicle struck Mr. Berry’s vehicle in the northbound lane. Her vehicle spun around and the rear bumper struck Chief Harvey’s 2006 Ford Crown Victoria. Her vehicle then struck Chief Harvey in the leg as he standing between the two police cruisers. Mr. Berry’s vehicle overturned and came to rest on its passenger side.

Mr. Berry and his passengers, Trulie Berry (wife), age 21, and Elizebeth Berry (daughter), age two months, were transported via ambulance to the Muhlenberg Community Hospital for treatment. Mr. Berry and his wife had to be extricated from the vehicle by mechanical means. Mr. and Mrs. Berry were wearing seatbelts. Their daughter was restrained in a child safety seat. Ms. Gentry, who was wearing a seatbelt, was not injured. Chief Harvey, age 45 of Greenville, KY, did not seek medical treatment. Officer Miller and the subject that he had stopped were not injured.

Trooper Jerry Knight investigated the collision. Trooper Craig Engler, the Greenville Police Department, the Greenville Fire Department, and Muhlenberg County EMS assisted at the scene.
