CENTRAL CITY, Ky. (7/22/13) – The triple digit heat index didn't stop the fun at Saturday's First Annual Downtown Central City Wheels & Thrills Golf Cart & Side-by Side Show.
Golf carts and Side-by-Sides of every description shared in good-natured competition with trophies awarded for everything from "Most Patriotic" and "Ugliest" to "Most Redneck".
As members of the crowd enjoyed the "entree of the day," grilled bologna sandwiches, Carmel Rich, Central City's Director of Tourism, said that considering the extremely hot weather, she was pleased to see so many turn out for an evening of family fun, adding that next year's event would include new events including a mattress race and other fun activities.
Central City Mayor Barry Shaver also seemed happy with the turn out, saying "Every event has to start somewhere, and next year's event will be bigger and better. We’re excited about many upcoming events that will continue to bring more people to the downtown area."
Other events coming to Central City include the Gospelfest on August 27th, featuring Jason Crabb, Adam Crabb, The Bowlings, The Martins, and Dixie Melody Boys. Labor Day Weekend will be highlighted by the Everly Brothers Rock N Roll Cruise In and Car Show, along with live music from the Endless Summer Band, and Larry Mattingly.
As the sun went down, and the temperatures became less brutal, folks were still arriving to enjoy the Karaoke music on the Clarence Brewer Stage.
