coco1HANSON, Ky. (8/31/13) – Hidden in a tightly assembled collection of late 19th century historic buildings in Hanson, lies a small business called Coco Eliza Boutique.

Located on 17 Sunset Road at Phillips Studio & Company, the boutiques name derived from both owner names, Nicole Gates and Elizabeth Lloyd. These lovely ladies wanted to bring a new trend to the this area.

With this idea of starting their own business, they hit the ground running in full force.

“I had an idea one day,” said Nicole Gates. “I called Eliza up and said… you know what we should do… we should totally get together and start a boutique online for women and start a more trendy more edgy style.”

Starting out with only $20.00 to their name, the ladies knew that this would be a great idea and after two months of being in business, they have already grown a following of loyal customers. Thankfully, owner Haylee Phillips gave them the idea of combining the two businesses.

“We started out online and then we had a trunk show with Haylee, the owner of the salon,” said Elizabeth Lloyd. “She thought it was a really awesome idea for us to sell out of her place.”

Starting out with only one clothes rack, the ladies popularity is growing and the business is expanding.

“There are a lot of things we still haven’t started yet… like with this building,” said Gates. “We are expanding this front area with more stuff.”

The ladies look around at different online stores and other clothing stores in bigger cities for new ideas and things to bring back for their boutique. When they go through and order, there are times they have to choose from thousands and thousands of clothing just to be able to order 5 pieces.

“We don’t pick just whatever, we really put some thought into it. What we think customers might like and sometimes take it a bit too far,” said Lloyd. “For being only two months old, I feel like we have done really well.”

The ladies also sell different accessories such as; jewelry, scarfs, and eventually they want to sell home décor items. They also offer truck shows.

“Anyone can have a trunk show. We basically take everything and setup a department store in your home,” said Gates. “We sell items so quickly. And then will be in a lull for week until the next order comes in.”

The ladies are eventually hoping that once the business really takes off they will be able to move into a bigger store.

“For right now we are enjoying the cliental that comes in and out of here, but in the long run… the bigger picture, we are hoping to move into a bigger place,” said Lloyd. “We just want to be able to support our local businesses and community. Why not keep it in the community… make our place nice.”
