MCC Program Focuses on Today's Energy Industry

mcc3 300MUHLENBERG COUNTY, Ky. (11/21/13) - Energy, in Kentucky and across the nation, is rapidly changing as new energy sources are providing power to homes and offices. To prepare students for future challenges in the energy industry, Madisonville Community College (MCC) recently implemented an online Energy Management Program. With certificate, diploma, and associate degree options, this program is designed to give students the skills and national certifications required to receive employment in the rapidly growing field of energy management and positions in the energy industry. The embedded certificates include the Center for Energy Workforce Development (CEWD) Energy Industry Fundamental Certificate, the Building Performance Institute’s Building Specialist certificate, The North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners’ Entry Level Solar certification, the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design’s Green Associate certification, and the Environmental Protection Agency’s Article 608 certification. Graduates of the Energy Management program will be qualified to recommend improvements to commercial and residential buildings by analyzing subsystems that contribute to higher energy usage.

Program Coordinator Jake Hildebrant, a Muhlenberg County native and former Instrument and Controls Technician at the Paradise Fossil Fuels Plant, shared, “I encourage persons working in a coal mine or in a coal-fired energy plant who wish to be better prepared for the changes that are already underway in the West Kentucky energy business to expand their horizons and employment opportunities through enrollment in the Energy Management program.” The program is 100% online and requires no textbooks. All learning is done on an iPad or other Apple approved device. To learn more about MCC’s Energy Management program, contact Jake Hildebrant at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. MCC has a long tradition of supporting the needs of the coal industry in Western Kentucky and will continue to offer one of the best mining technology programs in the Kentucky Community and Technical College System. MCC and the Kentucky Coal Academy provide mine training and mine rescue training for the Western Kentucky Coalfield.

MCC tuition costs are the lowest in the state and financial aid is available to those who qualify. Students are encouraged to complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) as soon as possible to avoid delays in processing aid.

All students are encouraged to apply for admission and register for classes before December 1st to avoid the late registration rush. For more information about spring classes, contact MCC’s Enrollment Center at 270-824-8621.
