muhl mustangs1 300OWENSBORO, Ky. (3/3/14) — After three wins in a row, two in 10th District Tournament play last week, the Muhlenberg Mustangs boys' basketball team hopes to continue their winning streak into the Third Region Tournament this Friday at the Owensboro Sportscenter.

Coach Tony Hopper's Mustangs ended regular season play with a 12-14 record, but now the team seems to be on a roll, winning over Christian County 60-45 in the last regular season game, and beating both McLean County and Ohio County in last week's 10 District Tournament.

This Friday the Mustangs take on fifth ranked Daviess County at 7:45 p.m.

Daviess County won over the region's top ranked team, the Apollo Eagles in 9 District play. Daviess County finished regular season play with a 16-10 record.

If the Mustangs win Friday, they will advance to play Saturday at 3:45 p.m. against the winner of Friday's Grayson County-Hancock County game.  

The final game of the 3-region tournament will be Mar. 10 at the Owensboro Sportscenter.

Weather permitting; the Lady Mustangs are set to play Breckinridge County this Tuesday at 6:45 p.m. at the Sportscenter in 3 Region girls basketball tournament action.

If the Lady Mustangs advance in regional play, they will go up against the winner of the Edmonson County-Owensboro Catholic game on Mar. 7 at 6 p.m.

Owensboro Catholic ended the season in first place in the region, with a 26-6 record.

Edmonson County also had a hot season, with a record of 18 wins and only 9 losses.
