special oly 3 CENTRAL CITY, Ky. (4/28/14) ― The Muhlenberg County Chapter of the Special Olympics will hold a Gospel Singing event at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 3 at the Central City Convention Center. Admission is $12 per adult and children 12 and under get in free.

According to Rodney Lear, one of the local coordinator for the Muhlenberg Special Olympics, several gospel groups will be featured including the group, Anointed, from Beech Creek, The DeArmond Family and Janet M. Cunningham.

Lear said that if anyone knows of someone interested and who qualifies to participate in the Special Olympics, he would be happy to talk to them.

"Qualifications are based solely on mental capabilities rather than physical capabilities," Lear said. "We are always looking for new members, and, of course, for volunteers to help with our may special events, too. Basketball season has just ended the first of spring. But I know the parents are excited by flag football, so we are looking for forward to that is season as the weather gets warmer. And, we really haven't concentrated on Special Olympics football but that is one of the next big events we have coming up. I know a lot of the parents involved have already begun posting photos of our football participants.”

Lear noted that the Special Olympics motto is, "Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be a brave in the attempt."
