arbor day logoMADISONVILLE, Ky. (4/8/13) – The City of Madisonville announces that it has been named a Tree City USA community by the National Arbor Day Foundation for the 18th time. The recognition results from the City of Madisonville’s commitment to community forestry.
 
The Tree City USA program is sponsored by The National Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service. Madisonville met the four standards required to be a Tree City USA community through having an active tree board, a tree care ordinance, a comprehensive community forestry program, and an Arbor Day observance.
 
Mayor Jackson noted, “This recognition by The National Arbor Day Foundation underscores the important work of our Park Superintendent Chris Taylor and the park staff, the elected officials, and the volunteers of the Madisonville Tree Board undertake in planting and caring for our community forest. It is a nice honor for all involved to be recognized by the Forest Service, Kentucky Division of Forestry, and The Arbor Day Foundation to their commitment to community forestry.”
 
Arbor Day Foundation President John Rose added, “We commend Madisonville's elected officials, volunteers and its citizens for providing vital care for its urban forest. Trees provide numerous environmental, economical, and health benefits to millions of people each day, and we applaud communities that make planting and caring for trees a top priority.”
