Gear Up Scholarship Event at Knicely Center

gear up 300BOWLING GREEN, KY (3/15/12) – The GEAR UP Kentucky 2.0 grant program will host 300 high school juniors for the Drive the Dream GEAR UP Scholarship Event on Friday (March 16) at Western Kentucky University’s Knicely Conference Center.

The GEAR UP program is a statewide project to increase the number of students who graduate from high school and enroll in postsecondary education. The students and their parents will attend the event from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at WKU’s South Campus.

Each student will receive a $1,000 GEAR UP scholarship to be used at any postsecondary institution in Kentucky. The students also will attend a workshop with a panel of former GEAR UP students. Their parents will attend a workshop on financial aid and other postsecondary education information.

As part of the scholarship luncheon, Ben Whitlock, a former GEAR UP student from GreenCounty and a McConnell Scholar at the University of Louisville, will share remarks on how the program helped him.
