WKU Graduate Student to be on Jeopardy

jeopardy 300Host of Jeopardy Alex Trebek poses with Mark ReevesBOWLING GREEN, Ky. (4/29/13) – Mark Reeves is a Bowling Green resident and graduate student at Western Kentucky University. He will be featured on an episode of Jeopardy that will premiere on Friday, May 3 at 6:00 p.m. on WNKY.

Reeves is studying history at WKU. After grad school, he wants to go on to get his PhD and then serve in the US Foreign Service. He is originally from South Carolina.

Reeves' mother was on Jeopardy in 2008. He followed his mother's footsteps in January and flew to Los Angeles to shoot an episode.

"I had actually tried out for Jeopardy several times as a teenager and then once in college," Reeves said.

He said that he took the regular test and then he had to wait to receive an email if he had passed. When he did, he was invited to Chicago for an audition. He went there in the fall. He was then put into a pool of people, to be kept there for 18 months. He was then called in November and flew to LA in January to film the episode.

He said being there was a little nerve-wrecking. He had to wait in the hotel until the day of the show came.

"Can you prepare for something like that?" he asked. "You never know what they are going to ask."

He said that while on set, he had to watch several other episodes get shot and wait for his episode, which builds nervousness. He said the experience was fun though.

"When you get to play a game to win money, obviously that's a good deal," he said. "It's challenging, but it's a lot of fun. I got the chance to give God glory with the opportunity he gave me."
