Rick Dubose to Lead WKU Alumni Association

ricke dubose 300BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (5/10/13) – For Rick DuBose, stepping into his new role as Assistant Vice President for Alumni Relations and Executive Director of the Western Kentucky University Alumni Association puts him in pretty good company.

DuBose will move into his new position on May 15.

“I am both honored and humbled to have this opportunity to lead this incredible association,” DuBose said. “It is hard for me to imagine following in the footsteps of former directors ‘Uncle Billy’ Craig, the Association's founder; WKU living legends Lee Robertson, Jimmy Feix and Jim Richards; as well Gene Crume and Donald Smith.”

DuBose will follow Smith, who was recently named President of the College Heights Foundation.

Kathryn Costello, Vice President of Development and Alumni Relations, said the appointment adds to an exciting era for WKU’s alumni program that includes the recent opening of the Augenstein Alumni Center.

“The foundation has been laid for developing the program of the future and Rick emerged during the search as the best person to lead this program,” she said. “Having worked with Rick for the past two years, I know he is creative, dedicated and passionate about WKU with great ideas for the future.”

WKU President Gary Ransdell said DuBose has “a long and deep history with WKU. He brings great passion and skill to his new duties in leading our 100,000 alumni and the staff in the Office of Alumni Relations. I look forward to working with him to bring exciting energy and innovation to how we engage our alumni in the ongoing life of WKU.”

DuBose’s enthusiasm helped him to stand out among the 50 applicants during the national search, said David Lee, search committee chair and Dean of the Potter College of Arts & Letters.

“We had applicants from literally all over the country with a wide variety of backgrounds,” Dr. Lee said. “After a rigorous and thorough search process by the committee, Rick emerged as the candidate with the most energy, most excitement and the most ideas about alumni relations.”

DuBose, a 1973 WKU graduate, returned in 1997 as the first major gift officer for the Potter College of Arts & Letters and the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences. In 1999, he became the University’s first director of corporate and foundation relations. In addition to those duties, he also serves as Assistant Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations.

After graduation, he spent nearly 20 years in the broadcasting industry, mostly in sales and management, before a nine-year career leading chambers of commerce in Bowling Green and Hopkinsville.

“I can't express my gratitude to those who have placed their confidence in me to sit in this chair at such a critical and exciting period for the Association and WKU,” DuBose said. “I’d be remiss if I didn't thank Donald Smith, his incredible staff, our board of directors, donors and alums who made our incredible new home, the Augenstein Alumni Center, possible, and of course, special thanks to Dale Augenstein for his generous lead gift and for his tireless leadership in helping to raise the funds necessary to make this state-of-the-art facility a reality.”
