Brooks Chosen as New McNeill Elementary Principal

BROOKS TEACHERBOWLING GREEN, Ky (5/24/2013) -- Kelli Brooks has been chosen as the new principal for W. R. McNeill Elementary School. The selection committee voted Wednesday morning for the decision. Brooks will officially begin her responsibilities on July 1.

"I want our school to be a place where leaders are built through learning," Brooks said.

She said she wants students to excel in both the academic area and outside of that. She also would like parents to be able to be involved in being leaders in the school as that would be good examples for the students.

Brooks is currently a first grade teacher at McNeill and has worked there since 1997. She has been working on leadership positions in the school for several years and has worked with topics such as gender equity, brain development and technology integration.

"I feel so fortunate in that having been here for 16 years, it doesn't even feel like work," she said. "I enjoy it."

Brooks is a member of the Kentucky Content Leadership Network. She has worked on several elementary school curriculum development committees for reading, science, language arts and social studies. She also serves to mentor local teachers who are seeking National Board Certification.

She has a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, a Master's Degree and Rank I in Educational Administration from Western Kentucky University. She is a National Board Certified Teacher. In 2006, she was named Kentucky Elementary Teacher of the Year.

"I'm looking forward to getting to interact and provide impact for the students in the school," she said.
