TODD COUNTY, Ky. (7/10/13) – The Kentucky State Police investigated a three-vehicle, injury collision that occurred on US 79, just north of Guthrie, on Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at 11:48 a.m.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Gregory Meachem, 59 of Russellville, KY, was operating a 1998 Ford F Series flatbed truck southbound on US 79. He was stopped in the roadway due to vehicular problems. Jan Musslewhite, 61 of Bowling Green, KY, was operating a 2007 Ford FreeStyle SUV southbound on US 79 approaching Mr. Meachem’s vehicle. Robert Thurston, 31 of Russellville, KY, was operating a 1993 Peterbilt tractor-trailer northbound on US 79.
Mr. Thurston saw the stopped vehicle in the roadway and applied his brakes. His vehicle drifted into the southbound lane where it struck Mr. Meachem’s vehicle. The impact forced Mr. Meachem’s vehicle into Mrs. Musslewhite’s vehicle.
Mr. Meachem was transported via ambulance to Logan County Memorial Hospital for treatment. Mr. Thurston sustained minor injuries, but was not transported. Mrs. Musslewhite and her passenger, William Musslewhite, 70 of Bowling Green, KY, were not injured. All occupants were wearing seatbelts.
Trooper Jeff Ayres investigated the collision. Trooper Jim McArthur, the Todd County Sheriff’s Department, the Guthrie Fire Department, and Todd County Rescue/EMS assisted at the scene.
