SGA Presents Scholarships to Five WKU Study Away Students

wku study away 300BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (8/22/13) – The WKU Student Government Association (SGA) has awarded scholarships to five WKU students taking Study Away courses during spring semester, Summer Sessions and the fall 2013 semester.

Scholarship recipients were social responsibility & sustainable communities graduate students Brandi Button of Cave City and Leslie E. Nichols of Bowling Green; Phillip Milburn, a music/vocal performance major from Bowling Green; Brady Thompson, an English major from Tompkinsville; and Chase Whicker, a Robards native studying architectural science.

SGA first began offering this scholarship to students taking a Study Away course during Winter Term 2011. Since then, SGA has sponsored more than 25 scholarships, totaling more than $3,200.

Study Away director Jerry Barnaby said that these scholarships make an impact on students. “Scholarships like these give students additional resources to participate in Study Away programs, expanding their overall academic experience,” Barnaby said.

“I hope other campus organizations will follow SGA’s lead and sponsor additional scholarship opportunities,” he added.

WKU Study Away provides off-campus programs that help students apply lessons from the classroom in a practical, hands-on setting. Study Away is a unit of the Division of Extended Learning and Outreach. Additional information about WKU Study Away is available at www.wku.edu/studyaway.
