Investments to Develop Western Kentucky Projects Including Broadband

broadband 300WESTERN KENTUCKY (11/13/13) - Six new investments are coming directly to western Kentucky from broadband access and a new auto parts facility to the purchase of a state-of-the-art surgical system through the DRA States' Economic Development Assistance Program.

A new investment of resources aimed at Delta small business owners, entrepreneurs, families and communities designed to grow the region's economy and create jobs was announced Tuesday, Nov. 12 by the Delta Regional Authority and Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear announced today.

These investments are in addition to $307,000 for infrastructure and business development efforts for a fish hatchery funded through this year's first round of SEDAP funding in March. DRA coordinates directly with Kentucky's three local development districts in the region for program funding implementation.

Projects for western Kentucky include:

• Regional Broadband Extension, Lyon & Caldwell Counties (KY1): Phase II of a previous project to establish broadband access in Lyon and Caldwell counties, with funding allocated toward the installation and purchase of equipment. DRA: $55,000; Total Project Cost: $55,000.

• ConnectGRADD Regional Broadband Extension, Henderson & Webster Counties (KY1): Expansion of an existing project to deliver Broadband internet to unserved and underserved areas in GRADD DRA Counties. DRA: $55,000; Total Project Cost: $55,000.

• Henderson County Airport Drainage Ditch Reroute, Henderson, Ky. (KY1): Reroute the main drainage ditch of the Henderson City-County Airport in order to alleviate flooding issues. DRA: $200,000; Total Project Cost: $242,500 (71 jobs to be created and retained).

• Muhlenberg County Broadband, Muhlenberg County, Ky. (KY1): Provide high speed connectivity to areas in the county that are unserved or underserved. DRA: $119,965; Total Project Cost: $230,250.

• Crittenden Health Systems C-Arm Project, Marion, Ky. (KY1): Purchase a surgical C-arm system for the Crittenden County Hospital. The system will allow the hospital to produce images with high quality and resolution while reducing patient and operator radiation dosage. DRA: $105,000; Total Project Cost: $118,238 (5 jobs to be retained).

The Delta Regional Authority is a federal-state partnership that is congressionally mandated to identify and provide investment to help grow the small business and entrepreneurial community in the 252 counties and parishes of the Delta. The investments come through the DRA's States Economic Development Assistance Program. With 45 Local Development Districts as front-line project managers, these investments by the Delta Regional Authority support job creation and community
development projects. In twelve project cycles, the Authority has leveraged more than $2.7 billion in public and private investment into DRA projects that are helping to create and retain more than 41,000 jobs, train nearly 30,000 workers, and afford more than 69,000 families access to clean water and sewer service.
